'The Wonky Gang'
Lady Topsy Turvy of Hornchurch
|
Topsy (DOB approximately end 2013/beginning 2014), one of the Hornchurch Girls who arrived in April 2014, is a 'Microphthalmia' piggy, better known as a 'lethal'. Lethals are born as a result of breeding two roan guinea pigs or two dalmation guinea pigs together, it is estimated that approximately 1 in 4 of the resulting babies will be born a lethal. A lethal guinea pig is always completely white, it may or may not have eyes, can have some sight or be completely blind, may be deaf and can have mild to severe teeth deformities or even missing teeth and some lethals are born with permanent internal damage. This is why it is hugely important NOT TO BREED guinea pigs unless you know what you are doing - a few stray white hairs can signal a roan piggy, but if you don't know what to look for you could inadvertently end up putting 2 roans together with the end result being a piggy like Topsy.

April
April originally belonged to a local breeder. The breeder had put April in with a boar at a very young age, the boar had done his job and when the time came for poor little April to deliver her pups they got stuck. Sadly she was left too long before being taken to the vets and by then the pups had died and April needed a C-section - which the woman refused to have done. Thankfully our vet stepped in, carried out the surgery (spaying April because her uterus was so badly decayed) and a few days later called us to ask if we could help. When April arrived she was traumatised, she didn't talk, wouldn't eat, but gradually with time and patience and lots of help from the piggies she gradually came out of her shell. She is a dear little lady.

Joy
PandaPanda is a tiny sow who has recently joined 'The Wonky Gang'.
Panda was handed into EPGPR with 8 other piggies. On health checking and observation of Panda something just didn't look right. She is very small for her age and sometimes has episodes of looking to be vacant. She has been vet checked and because we can not pin point the problem she is staying with us. She has made lots of friends in 'The Wonky Gang'. |
Ava
Ava Gardener is the last remaining of the Leading Ladies. They arrived from another guinea pig rescue. They are all older ladies. Ages range from 6-8 years. They have become permanent residents at East Peckham Guinea Pig Rescue. They have various aliments; lumps and bumps, stiff joints, suspected ovarian cysts, etc.
Ava has now joined 'The Wonky Gang'.
